Refund policy

Last Updated: August 20, 2026

At The Jersey City Bicycle Company ("JCBC"), we believe good service includes being clear about what customers can expect before, during, and after a repair.

These terms apply to applicable services and purchases made through JCBC. By authorizing service or completing a purchase, you acknowledge the terms applicable to your transaction, subject to any rights or remedies that cannot legally be waived.

SERVICE, WARRANTY & RETURN POLICY:

1. SERVICE AUTHORIZATION

The customer authorizes JCBC to perform the services specifically approved on the applicable estimate, work order, invoice, appointment, or service record.

Bicycle repair sometimes reveals conditions that could not reasonably be identified during the initial inspection.

If our technicians discover additional work, parts, or labor that would result in additional charges, we will contact you for authorization before proceeding.

Authorization may be documented through methods including:

  • In-person approval

  • Text message

  • Email

  • Electronic invoice or estimate

  • Online approval

  • Other documented communication

No additional billable repair will be intentionally performed without customer authorization.

JCBC reserves the right to decline or stop work when we determine that a requested repair cannot reasonably be completed safely, necessary components are unavailable or incompatible, or completing only a portion of the requested work would create or leave a known unsafe condition.

2. OUR SERVICE GUARANTEE

We stand behind the quality of our workmanship.

If you believe something is not functioning properly as a direct result of service performed by JCBC, please contact us promptly and provide us with a reasonable opportunity to inspect the bicycle.

Complimentary 72-Hour Adjustments

As a courtesy, JCBC provides complimentary minor adjustments related to the original service for 72 hours following pickup.

Examples may include:

  • Normal cable settling or stretch

  • Brake fine-tuning

  • Derailleur fine-tuning

  • Minor alignment corrections directly related to the original service

  • Re-torquing hardware associated with the original repair

The bicycle must be returned to JCBC for inspection before we can determine whether a concern is related to our original service.

The complimentary adjustment period does not cover:

  • Flat tires, punctures, or subsequent air loss

  • New or unrelated mechanical problems

  • Additional repairs or replacement parts

  • Normal wear and tear

  • Components previously identified as worn or damaged

  • Repairs or replacements recommended by JCBC but declined

  • Crash, collision, impact, misuse, neglect, vandalism, theft, or improper storage

  • Damage occurring after the bicycle leaves JCBC

  • Repairs, modifications, or adjustments subsequently performed by another person or business

  • Customer-supplied parts or accessories

  • Manufacturer defects

  • Conditions unrelated to JCBC's workmanship

Pickup confirms that the authorized service order has been completed and possession of the bicycle has been returned to the customer.

This does not prevent a customer from reporting a legitimate concern regarding JCBC's workmanship.

Any concern reported following pickup will be evaluated to determine whether it relates to the original service or represents a new or unrelated condition.

New or unrelated repairs, diagnostics, replacement parts, and labor may result in additional charges.

3. DIAGNOSTICS & ESTIMATES

A bicycle is a mechanical system, and not every condition can be identified during an initial visual inspection.

Some problems become apparent only after:

  • Adjustment

  • Test riding

  • Cleaning

  • Component removal

  • Disassembly

  • Installation of replacement components

  • Further diagnostic inspection

Unless expressly stated otherwise, an estimate reflects the work reasonably anticipated based upon the condition of the bicycle at the time of inspection.

If additional billable work becomes necessary, JCBC will contact the customer for authorization before proceeding.

Declining a recommended repair may prevent us from correcting the underlying problem.

4. DECLINED REPAIRS

JCBC may recommend replacement or additional service when components are excessively worn, bent, cracked, corroded, stripped, damaged, incompatible, or otherwise unsuitable for continued service.

Customers generally have the right to decline recommended repairs.

When a repair is declined, JCBC may document the recommendation and customer's decision on the service record or invoice.

The customer acknowledges that adjustments cannot restore a component that requires replacement.

If JCBC determines that completing only the requested portion of a repair would itself create or contribute to an unsafe condition, we reserve the right to decline that repair.

5. CUSTOMER-SUPPLIED & THIRD-PARTY PARTS

Customer-supplied or third-party components may require additional inspection, compatibility verification, installation time, adaptation, or troubleshooting.

Outside parts are therefore subject to additional handling and installation charges starting at $25 per item, with additional labor charges where applicable.

JCBC does not provide a product warranty for customer-supplied components.

JCBC is not responsible for:

  • Manufacturer defects in customer-supplied products

  • Incorrect third-party compatibility information

  • Improperly specified components

  • Premature product failure unrelated to our workmanship

  • Missing hardware or installation components

  • Other defects inherent in an outside product

JCBC may decline to install any component that appears damaged, defective, incompatible, unsafe, or unsuitable for the intended bicycle.

JCBC remains responsible for performing installation work that we accept with reasonable care.

Whenever possible, purchasing components directly through JCBC allows us to verify compatibility and assist with applicable product or manufacturer support.

6. FLAT TIRE REPAIR POLICY

Flat-tire service addresses the condition identified at the time the bicycle is serviced.

Depending upon the repair authorized, we may inspect relevant components including the tire, tube or tubeless system, valve, rim, and rim tape.

A successful flat repair cannot guarantee that another puncture or loss of air will not occur after the bicycle leaves JCBC.

Future flats may result from:

  • Glass

  • Nails

  • Thorns

  • Road debris

  • Pinch flats

  • Impact

  • Improper tire pressure

  • Worn or damaged tires

  • Damaged rims

  • Rim-tape problems

  • Valve failure

  • Tubeless-system conditions

  • Normal riding hazards

  • Other subsequent conditions outside JCBC's control

If we identify a tire or related component that should be replaced, we will recommend replacement.

If the customer declines a recommended replacement, continued use of that component may increase the likelihood of another flat or other mechanical problems.

Flat-tire repairs are not warrantied against future punctures or subsequent air loss.

If you believe subsequent air loss resulted from our workmanship rather than a new puncture or riding condition, please contact us so we can inspect the bicycle.

7. USED & PRE-OWNED BICYCLES

Every used bicycle has a different history.

Used bicycles may contain previous repairs, modifications, wear, corrosion, fatigue, damage, or hidden conditions that are not apparent during ordinary inspection.

Unless JCBC expressly states otherwise in writing, a tune-up, repair, diagnostic, or safety inspection does not constitute certification that a used bicycle is free from every hidden defect or guarantee the future condition or lifespan of every component.

Some conditions may become apparent only through continued riding, further disassembly, or component failure.

Our service and inspection apply to the conditions reasonably observable and the work specifically authorized at the time of service.

8. SAFETY POLICY

Safety is a priority at JCBC.

If our technicians identify worn, damaged, improperly installed, or otherwise concerning components, we may recommend additional repair or replacement.

Customers may decline recommended repairs unless JCBC determines that performing the requested partial repair would itself create or contribute to an unsafe condition.

We reserve the right to decline service that we reasonably believe cannot be performed safely.

9. PICKUP & POST-SERVICE CONCERNS

Customers are encouraged to inspect their bicycle at pickup and ask any questions they have about the services performed.

Pickup confirms that possession of the bicycle has been returned to the customer and the authorized service order has been completed.

If you believe a concern is related to JCBC's workmanship, please contact us promptly.

When reasonably practicable, JCBC should be provided an opportunity to inspect an alleged service-related issue before another business or individual performs additional repair or modification.

This allows us to determine whether the condition is related to our original work.

10. STORAGE & UNCLAIMED BICYCLES

As a growing, high-volume repair shop, especially during peak season, space is limited and every inch counts. This policy helps us deliver top-tier service to all riders by keeping our shop running efficiently.

Here's how it works:

1. Notification of Completion
You’ll receive a text or call when your bike is ready for pick-up.

2. 72-Hour Pick-Up Window
We ask that all completed service bikes be picked up within 72 hours (3 days) of notification.

3. Automatic Storage Fees
If your bike is not picked up within 72 hours:
$25 storage fee will be automatically applied.
An additional $25 fee will be added every 7 days the bike remains in our shop.

4. 30-Day Abandonment Policy
Bikes left for 30 days or more will be considered abandoned and become the property of The Jersey City Bicycle Company. We reserve the right to donate, recycle, or resell the bike to recover space and costs, without further notice.

5. Need More Time?
We get it—life happens. Just give us a call or email in advance to make arrangements. We're happy to work with you.

11. RETURNS, REFUNDS & FINAL SALE

Except where otherwise required by law, the following are final sale:

  • Bicycles

  • Completed service labor

  • Installed parts

  • Special orders

  • Custom builds

  • Rentals

  • Lessons

  • Workshops

  • Events

Service Labor

Service labor that has already been completed cannot be returned and is therefore non-refundable, except where otherwise required by law or where JCBC determines another remedy is appropriate.

A disagreement regarding completed service does not automatically establish entitlement to a refund. Customers who believe service was performed incorrectly should contact JCBC so we can inspect the bicycle and evaluate the concern.

Installed Parts

Parts that have been installed on a bicycle cannot ordinarily be returned once installed.

This does not eliminate any applicable rights relating to defective merchandise or manufacturer warranty coverage.

Special Orders & Custom Builds

Special-order products and custom builds are final sale and cannot ordinarily be cancelled or returned once the applicable order has been placed.

Other Merchandise

Unused merchandise that is not otherwise designated final sale is subject to JCBC's posted merchandise return policy.

Any approved return must generally be:

  • New

  • Unused

  • Uninstalled

  • In original condition

  • Accompanied by original packaging where applicable

Approved exceptions may be subject to an applicable restocking fee disclosed to the customer.

Lessons, Rentals, Workshops & Events

Unless different terms were disclosed at purchase, lessons, rentals, workshops, and events are non-refundable and must be redeemed within 12 months of purchase.

Store credit, rescheduling, exchanges, or other exceptions may be offered at JCBC's discretion where permitted by law.

Nothing in this policy limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be waived.

12. MANUFACTURER WARRANTIES

Products sold by JCBC may include warranties provided by their respective manufacturers.

Manufacturer warranty eligibility, duration, exclusions, documentation requirements, and claim decisions are determined by the applicable manufacturer.

JCBC does not control or guarantee a manufacturer's warranty decision.

When appropriate, we may assist customers with manufacturer warranty claims.

Unless covered by the manufacturer or expressly waived by JCBC, charges may apply for:

  • Diagnostics

  • Shipping

  • Disassembly

  • Reassembly

  • Installation

  • Packaging

  • Other associated labor

13. PAYMENT & TRANSACTION RECORDS

JCBC may maintain records relating to transactions and services, including:

  • Estimates

  • Work orders

  • Invoices

  • Service records

  • Customer authorizations

  • Text or email communications

  • Payment records

  • Photographs

  • Recommended or declined repairs

  • Completion and pickup information

These records help us maintain accurate service histories and address questions regarding completed transactions.

Customers who believe there is an error with a transaction or service are encouraged to contact JCBC promptly so we can review the matter and, where applicable, inspect the bicycle.

A payment dispute or chargeback does not itself determine whether merchandise or services were properly authorized, provided, or completed. JCBC reserves the right to provide relevant transaction, authorization, communication, fulfillment, and service records to payment processors, card networks, financial institutions, or other parties involved in resolving a payment dispute, as permitted by applicable law.

14. POLICY CHANGES

JCBC may update these policies from time to time.

The policy applicable to a transaction will generally be the policy in effect when the applicable purchase or service is authorized, except where subsequent changes are required by law.
